BREAK OUT THE PLAID, FALL IS HERE!

BREAK OUT THE PLAID, FALL IS HERE!

Have you been longing for crisp air, changing leaves, and all of the apple and pumpkin spiced things you can get???  Well, fall is here, and at ENJOY that means Apple Fest

Did you know there are more than 8,000 varieties of apples? Yes!  Will they all be on display at Apple Fest? Probably not, because that’s a lot of apples!  But you can count on plenty of apple pie, cider, and all sorts of apple treats to abound at Apple Fest.  If you want to make your own apple pie you’ll need about 2lbs of apples, which is 8.5lbs less than a peck of apples and 40lbs less than a bushel.  But before I go on about my favorite apple treats-let us celebrate the other wonderful thing about fall-plaid!

Yes, plaid is now, even more so than the rest of the year, acceptable, nay, celebrated to wear.  If you’re looking for a splash of plaid, don’t worry! ENJOY has a lovely selection of Plaid Tartan Scarves to satisfy your needs!  I, personally, like a crisp red plaid, but we have several color combinations to complete any fall look. If summer does have to be gone, can’t we celebrate with a plaid scarf and apple cider?

Speaking of apple cider!  It tastes great, and pick up a Corkcicle to keep it cold, or warm, because it does both!   We have stemless glasses to tumblers to canteens, available in different designs and colors-coordinate with your plaid, or don’t, the world is your oyster! In all seriousness, if you haven’t checked out Corkcicle yet, you should!  It is both functional and fashionable and we’re slightly obsessed with them at the store—I think we all have at least one.

My favorite part of Apple Fest is the Pooch Costume Contest and Parade.  It’s an adorable way to kick off October and get a little Halloween in early.  A lot of our regulars take part in the pooch costume contest, yes we have regular doggy visits in our dog friendly store; so it’s very exciting for us to see who’s going to be what.  (And yes I will do a dogs of ENJOY blog at some point-because they are too adorable to not!)

Apple Fest has lots of fun for the whole family.  Games, food, and shopping! Yes, more shopping in Lincoln Square! We will have a booth set up outside our shop with “Exclusive To The Tent” deals!  And a book sale that will benefit the Friends of Chappell Elementary School-so be sure to check us out!

Apple Fest is Saturday, October 5 & Sunday, October 6, from 9am – 6pm & Sunday 9am-6pm on Lincoln Ave between Lawrence & Eastwood.

If you’re looking for a cocktail to put in your new Corkcicle, or glass of choice; here’s a recipe I adapted from a Martha Stewart recipe for an Apple Cider Bourbon cocktail.  September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, but we don’t mind if we still celebrate it all fall long.

Apple Cider Bourbon Cocktail
¾ cup of apple cider
⅓ cup of bourbon (or to your liking)
A good squeeze of fresh lemon juice
A pinch of dried ginger or a couple slices of fresh

Throw it all in a shaker with some ice-shake shake shake-and pour.  Garnish with cinnamon, or an apple slice.

You can also forget the lemon, ginger and the shaking, and add a bit of ginger beer instead.  It’s easy and versatile!

Happy Fall!
